Riding, discovering. This is The Gravel Road Series
Just a few weeks ago, we were at the first stage of the GRAVEL ROAD SERIES in Castellania in the Province of Cuneo. In true gravel fashion, a field of riders coming from road, mountain bike, and cyclocross came together to explore and push their limits without any boundaries. Asphalt, gravel, trails, vineyards. It didn’t matter. Stage on in Castellania had it all.
After a predicted fast and furious start, the field took to the gravel roads and trails connecting the vineyards and fields of the area. Playing host to the race, the area is rich with local delicacies, a fact that the riders certainly took advantage of after the race with food in abundance and wine flowing freely.
Some riders, like Italian mountain bike legend Martino Fruet and Rebecca Gariboldi, raced hard for the win, putting their considerable bike handling skills to use by winning the men’s and women’s races. Others embraced the explorative nature of the Gravel Road Series, savoring the natural beauty (from which the ingredients for post-race pasta party were harvested) and gaining a unique perspective on the area known to very few.
Soon, we will be travelling to Alba in the Piemonte region where the natural beauty and famous Barolo vineyards will play host to the next stage of the Gravel Road Series. As we continue to go from stage to stage exploring and tasting all that each has to offer, we will always be looking to push further, go further, because in the world of gravel cycling, riding the impossible is what it is all about. Go, ride, explore.
